I believe that a scientist is a person who is willing to help his fellow man advance forth by investigating the world around him is a scientist. Why can a Christian not be a "real" scientist? Because he believes in something that you doubt is logical? That's wrong.

I think it takes guts to be in the scientific community and be religious, or better yet, creationist. They will actively persecute you and shut you down. They still exist, though, and they do good work. Science is about helping your fellow man. If your interests are not in that, you are not a scientist any more than if you were a babysitter who hated children. YOU are not a real scientist.

If it ends up being a Christian scientist who discovers the cure for cancer or AIDS, please show me one person who will walk up to them and say, "thank you for your discovery, but our religious views are different so your work is invalid." Didn't think so.

B-but... religion is illogical!

To whom? To you? A lot of things throughout history have been thought of as illogical. Democracy was illogical for most of human history. The world being round, the Earth revolving around the sun. These things we take for granted today weren't always so a while ago. Issac Newton explained it best when he attributed the Earth around him and the things therein as being created.

You know what I think is illogical? The idea that some magical piece of TNT went off in space and sent rock through space and formed planets. And how do they explain the fact that Earth has the exact perfect conditions for life? Simple. There are infinite numbers of parallel universes, each with differing conditions for what would or would not be this planet, and we just got lucky. I think luck is illogical. Come at me, bro.

B-but... if you're a scientist that believes in something illogical, you can't be a scientist! You can't pick and choose!!!!1111

So in other words, any scientist who goes against common belief of the day is not a scientist. Good attitude. Also, religion isn't science. I can justify it with science if I so choose, but it's not science since I cannot "test" God. Science is testable. That is one of its characteristics. So yes, you can pick and choose.

Starlow-FTW, I am thoroughly convinced by your argument and would like to give my support. How can I?

By squashing any idea that science and religion are incompatible. One doesn't have to trump the other. I'm with Sir. Issac Newton when he said that he attributed all of his discoveries to the work of God. Just because I'm a creationist doesn't mean I don't think cells exist. I've done a lot of explaining on how cells work to atheist "intellectuals" on here.

Also, before someone complains, yes, people of other faiths, not just Christians, can be scientists, as can women and not just men. I just know that someone was gonna complain about that.
